York 0 Shapleigh 5
Thur. Sept. 15, 2022
York, ME -- The Shapleigh Sharks provided too much of a task for the 8th Grade Boys Soccer Team as the visitors scored a 5-0 victory over York.
With high hopes for the new season, the Wildcats were somewhat surprised by the size, speed, and quickness of their neighbors to the south. With only one substitute, the York boys gave it their all for all 60 minutes.
With the game close at hand, Zach Trembly rose for a beautiful header off a corner kick by Aiden Mello. The header rang off the crossbar, keeping the 'Cats off the scoreboard. A goal there would have tied the game at 1-1. The Wildcats struck the woodwork again in the second half as all the good fortune was rolling the visitor's way.
Devon Conte had numerous excellent saves, keeping the game close most of the way. Heavy pressure by the Sharks late in the contest sealed the victory.
